New employee starts Monday. The laptop arrives Friday afternoon. The account still needs a license, the authenticator app isn’t set up, and nobody knows who can approve access to the shared folder.
That’s not a technology mystery. It’s a handoff problem.
Get four answers before day one
Who is the manager? What systems does the person need? Which files or groups should they be able to use? Who is the person they can call if sign-in doesn’t work?
Then prepare the device, account, security settings, and access before the new hire shows up. Make sure someone can help with the first sign-in and the authenticator setup. Don’t send a new employee a password in the same email as the account name.
Good onboarding looks uneventful. The person opens the laptop, signs in, and gets to work. That’s the whole point.
